Our skin is the only organ in our body that can be seen physically with our own naked eyes. As it is visible to us it is much likely that we should be able to take good care of this organ. Our skin is our first defense from bacteria that carries a lot of diseases. It is our duty to protect and look after our skin. Unfortunately, most of the time, we often neglect its importance and do things that can harm our skin. There are things you should never do to your skin as it can harm and cause problems along the way.
Here are some things we often do and we should stop doing it.
1. Squeezing, and Popping your Skin. We are all guilty about this. We often pop or squeeze an annoying pimple that keeps on occurring in our face. Unfortunately, doing this can make things much worse. It will cause a deeper wound and open wound is a good entry for bacteria where infection would be in high probability. It will also leave dark scars that you wouldn’t want to be present in your skin. Your hand carries bacteria and keeping it in contact with your skin pimples can make it much worse than ever.
2. Exposure to sunlight in a longer period of time. This is to prevent skin damage. The sun’s UV rays can harm our skin cells and worse it can lead to skin cancer. Prolonged and repeated sun exposure can cause skin aging and would show symptoms like uneven skin tone, sunburn, wrinkles and much more. It is best to use sunscreen if you’re going out and stay under the sun for longer period.
3. Excessive shaving and waxing. We often neglect the condition of our skin by doing this common act. When we shave, we tend to slough off some part of our skin surface causing irritation and redness. As much as possible let your hair grow longer before shaving and waxing to avoid excessive friction between the blade/wax and the skin. Let our skin heal from the friction caused by blade and wax. Excessive shaving and waxing can cause micro wounds and become a portal of entry of microbes.
4. Washing skin vigorously. Using harsh washing movement with soap can strip off our skin’s natural oils causing dryness and crack. Our skin is delicate and it needs smooth actions and ways in washing it. Dry skin can open a path for infection to enter the body and enhances signs of aging like wrinkles and lines.
5. Using different products. One of our impulses in buying stuff is all about skin care products. If we hear or see it on ads and magazines that it can make your skin glow, smooth, and much more, we tend to impulse buy that product without knowing deeper if it is good for our skin type. Most of the products have a different substance that may interfere or react with each other causing irritation or loss of products function. It is best to know your skin type and what products are suitable for you. It is best to consult your dermatologist for guidance.
Our skin is one of the indicators of our health condition. We have to preserve and protect our skin as much as we care for our body. It represents our image and figure. It is one tough shield and we need to reinforce its function by taking care of it.
