Does Face Mask Actually Do Anything For Your Skin?

We love to give our skin the best way to keep it fresh and beautiful. We are often given with a variety of options to do this from facials to laser treatment. And the most convenient way to pamper our skin inside or outside the house is face mask.

To those who are a big fan of the face mask, have you ask yourself if face mask could really do anything for your skin? Even to those who are curious about using a face mask, you would probably ask if it can really do something to your skin. Do they really work as it says it would? Let’s look into these facial masks and reveal what’s hidden behind their mask.

Each face mask offers different functions to offer for our skin. Most of them give a temporary effect to our skin. But some products claims that they can give long term effects on your skin which are too good to be true or it may be possible thru continuous use in a longer period of time. There is no one facial mask that can treat all skin problems but as part of skin care regime and healthy diet, it can help your skin. If you look into different facial mask their claims are mostly not specific.

According to Dr. Neal Schultz an NYC dermatologist, the mask is just another 'vehicle,' like a lotion, serum, cream, ointment, that delivers 'actives' to the skin to improve the appearance or quality of the skin. Meaning what can lotion or serum can do, the face mask can also do it but it needs another component to be absorbed by the skin.

Most of the available face mask at store contains butylene glycol. Butylene glycol acts as an agent and solvent that can aid in the absorption of the ingredients from the face mask to the skin. If you look into the ingredients of face mask they are mostly bombarded of different components but remember only the main ingredients of the product are being absorbed and most of the other ingredients are only small portions of it can go into your skin. We have 3 layers of skin that protect us from microbes and other foreign matters. It is also the reason why it is hard for the ingredients to penetrate the skin. To be realistic, check on the main ingredients of your face mask to determine what it can do most of your skin.

It is also important to understand what your skin actually needs from a face mask. There are three ingredients you should check out for to be part of your skin care. First, it should contain exfoliants to remove dead skin cells and prevent clogging. The second ingredient is antioxidant that can protect the skin. And lastly, there should be peptides that can help production of collagen. It may be difficult to find all these ingredients in one single face mask that is why you can use a variety of face mask. The face mask can actually do something for your skin as long as it has the needed ingredients for skin absorption. It can work well with other skin care regimen than using it all alone. It’s not bad indulging your skin with these treatments as long as it can do its job well.
