As of today, May 26 the Philippine population surged to 102,090,775. Poverty and unemployment continually drag the country as underdeveloped despite the claim of increased Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The concern about overpopulation became the focus of the Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte. Once again he has taken the limelight during the weekend with his statement he only wants three children for every family. He said that even he is a Christian he recognized the need to address the overpopulation issue of the country, taking into consideration the natural methods of family planning. As a Christian Catholic nation, Filipinos took heed being strongly opposed even to the passing of the Reproductive Health Bill. A reaction is that this policy is against the Philippine law.
On Monday, incoming President Duterte made a statement that the proposal on three-child policy was just a proposition because one cannot force everyone to follow. He added that it will be best though the family can limit the number of their children.
For the past days, the presumptive President had been making headlines. His 8-point economic plan is gradually revealed with some of his strategies critically analyzed as they are in conflict with what are the norms. Ever since he ran for presidency, he is blatant to convey his intention of addressing the crimes of the country to the extent of bringing back the death penalty. He also made a statement that it is time for government employees to give back to people what they are paid for. Also, he placed himself in conflict with the Catholic Church as he referred to it as the most hypocritical institution.
Looking at the present scenario of the country, there is a need for a dynamic leader who can cause a better change. This maybe is the reason majority voted for Rodrigo Duterte. He may have unconventional ways and rudeness but his actual performance is yet to be seen.
