The most awaited day is finally here - the deciding moment of the 2016 Philippine Election! This is the day to choose the people who will run our country in the next six years.
I am one of 54.4M Filipinos who believe that this election will bring hope to our country. This is the first time that I will be an absentee voter and I really intend to take part in choosing the leaders of our country through exercising my right to suffrage.
During my vacation at home, I am able to witness the campaign strategies of the politicians. There are the TV ads that you can laugh because of the trying hard effort to elevate oneself and degrade others, the noisy repetitive jingles played loudly on campaign vehicles circling the locality, the printed campaign material posted on walls along the streets and vote-buying coursed through the barangay leaders. There is still the exchange of demeaning personalities among the aspiring candidates over the radio or television. With these campaign strategies of the traditional politicians, one can be hopeless about the better government. It will just end up to the same corruption story as these politicians will surely recover the tons of money they spent during the campaign period.
Nevertheless, there is this positive feeling within me about this election. Maybe because even if there is the threat of tampering with the results, I am sure people will already be vigilant to take stand. The rapid information dissemination through the internet will surely help, at least the culprits will have hesitations and will be limited with their intentions. I am saddened of some news that in some areas in the Philippines, there are still violence related to election especially there are people who are not allowed to practice their right to vote.
I am just a single vote but I have high hopes that as a country we will finally be able to attain good leadership that will eventually bring us to development. All this I lift up as a prayer to one Sovereign power.
