Filipino overseas voters can already cast their votes which started last April 9, 2016 and the last day on May 9, 2016. However there was a viral issue concerning the ballot used in the overseas absentee voting as it turned out that the names of Liberal Party (LP) Presidential candidate Manuel Roxas II and Vice-presidential candidate Representative Ma. Leonor Lobrido were said to be highlighted. James Jimenez, spokesperson of Commission on Elections (Comelec) denied such accusation with the justification that the highlighted ballot might not be authentic and was just a digital fake. He took photo of the controversial ballot and furthermore justified that it looked like a sample ballot which is considered to be a campaign material to guide the voters.
Atty. Bruce Rivera of San Beda College threw the question to the Comelec in issuing such ballots through a post on Facebook that immediately went viral. He even added that some Duterte supporters clamored about some ballots that did not count Presidential Candidate Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
The current controversial issue that went instantly viral may just be another tactic for the upcoming elections. The trash reality of our government system is very evident and is happening in front of us. This is how dirty politics in our country is. May in our own ways we will be committed to have an honest election and its results so that we will be able to see a better change in our own government. It is high time that we Filipinos must have what is due us. For quite long, the issue of the corruption in our government seemed to be just acceptable even how belittling the ways of the previous leaders were.
No matter who is the bad one in this controversial issue, may we just be able to make a better judgment and make an effort to choose the leaders who will bring us the development we deserve.
