The Philippine National Elections 2016 is coming near and many of the Filipino citizens are preparing to cast their votes in the different precincts they’re listed. This election will have an automated type of voting, commissioned by the COMELEC for the people of the Philippines. Technology will be playing a big role on the forthcoming elections and will most likely be in touch with the other requirements posted by the COMELEC.
One of the requirements that a voter should possess is the voter’s ID and the COMELEC has issued information that is all about the voter ID’s purpose. The voter ID is an ID validated for the recognition of the government offices and even the banks for proof of identity. Like any other IDs, the voter’s ID is used for the voter’s identification with a stipulation of his or her name, address, date of birth, sex, photograph, thumb mark, number of precinct where he or she is registered, signature of the voter and the chairman of the Election Registration Board and his or her VIN or the Voter’s Identification Number.

Voters who are already entitled by this card have passed the biometrics done by the COMELEC’s Voter’s Registration Machine (VRM). Others who have already the voter ID has gone through the old Data Capture Machine (DCM). The COMELEC strictly implements the need of BIOMETRICS when getting the voter ID.
Those who had not yet taken the ID can still vote but may be stressed when they will already be on their precincts, especially when the COMELEC will ask them of their identification on the day of the elections.
Here are the simple steps that will help in the attainment of the voter’s ID:
Step 1
The applicant should bring a valid ID that is recognized by the COMELEC Office:
- Postal ID
- Driver’s license
- Students ID or library card which is signed by the school authority
- Employees identification card (ID) signed by the employer or authorized representative
- Senior Citizen’s ID
- Passport
- NBI/PNP clearance
- ID issued by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)
- SSS/GSIS ID
- Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) license; and
- Any other valid ID
Moreover, if the applicants are married and would want to apply for the ID, they can bring their marriage certificate as their valid identification document.
Step 2
Go to the nearest COMELEC office. A COMELEC online site is also available to those who don’t know where to go or where the COMELEC office is located. Just visit this site for more information: http://www.comelec.gov.ph/?r=ContactInformation
Step 3
The staff of the COMELEC Office will then ask for the valid ID and will process the application.
Step 4
A form will be filled-out for the voter’s ID application. It may take months or even a year depending on the locality where the applicant is situated.
