"To err is human" seemed to play a trick with Steve Harvey, an award winning American comedian, television host, radio personality, actor, and author during the controversial pageant night of Miss Universe 2015 in Las Vegas last December 20, 2015. He was definitely put on the spot dilemma after he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as Miss Universe instead of Pia Wurtzbach from Philippines. For someone who made his way to popularity and with his current status, it was difficult for him to do what he did, took responsibility for the mistake he made. It was expected for him to be flawless in hosting the most anticipated worldwide event.
Last January 04, 2016 on the “Steve Harvey Morning Show” he finally broke his silence about the unfortunate incident. He reiterated what happened and simply stood up to his action of immediately getting back to the stage to correct the mistake he made right then and there. As soon as he realized his error through the commotion at the backstage, he did not wait for the event organizers to cover up for him, instead he did what he thought was the right thing to do - apologized and corrected the mistake on live television. It was an admirable act for him to acknowledge his father’s lesson of owning one’s mistake. He further stated that what he did was not in any way a publicity tactic.
Harvey said he was able to talk with the concerned persons except for Ms. Colombia whom he reached out to but did not respond. He felt regret for what she truly felt of which none would be able to know but he also stressed he had to make the decision he made for Miss Philippines who got the votes and the points, the one who actually won the event.
