Lowell Menorca an ex-minister of Iglesia ni Cristo got arrested early this morning by cops in plainclothes along the Roxas Boulevard on his way to the court. Police Superintendent Ed Leonardo, who is also an INC member, led the arrest.
In his interview with Ted Failon on dzMM, Menorca said he was on his way to attend the hearing in the Court of Appeals when suddenly a group of police in plainclothes arrested him. He further narrated that he was from the safe house and he was about to use another car in going to the Court of Appeals but to his surprise about 20 cops showed up, arrested him and claimed they got a warrant of arrest for him. When he asked for the warrant though, they refused to show it. Menorca questioned the warrant issued for him because he was not informed about it. According to him, he wasn’t able to attend the hearing and he didn’t receive a notice about the warrant even once. It was a shock for him and he was in awe of what had happened. Menorca believed that his arrest today was a handiwork of the powerful sect who also kidnapped him and his family last year and expelled them from INC. This incident just showed to the world how powerful INC in releasing warrants even without due process, Menorca said.
This was however contradicted by the Spokesperson of the INC who denied that they were involved on the arrest of Menorca in Manila.
Superintendent Ed Leonardo head of the Pandacan Police Station confirmed that they had the arrest warrant about a libel case for Menorca from Marawi City. Leonardo further said that he maybe is a member of INC but he was just doing his job and his sect has nothing to do with the execution of his duty. They intentionally dressed in plainclothes so that Menorca would not be able to take notice and escape.
Menorca was brought to the Manila Police District Station 5 after being arrested. He underwent the regular booking process and was approved to bail in the amount of 10,000 pesos.
