BONGBONG MARCOS URGED TO GIVE TEACHERS THE BENEFITS THEY DESERVE

As the 2016 Presidential Elections comes near, public school teachers from around the country are expected to give service as the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs). It’s a no-easy work because serving as BEIs is a very crucial job that’s entrusted to them. They are paid an amount of P4,500 on their three-day service as according to COMELEC Resolution No. 10031. In lieu of their demanding job during these times, the amount is seemingly low for their utmost efforts of maintaining an orderly and smooth election. Thus, making one of the candidates in the upcoming election to make a move on this argument.

ABS-CBN news reports that the Vice Presidential candidate, Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., appealed to the Commission on Elections to give additional benefits to the teachers who will be serving these coming 2016 elections. Public school teachers are the ones who are almost entirely operating the elections because they are mandated by the law to serve.

Sad to say though, Marcos said that despite of the appeal to the COMELEC to raise their pay, it will still be retained to the same amount of honorarium they had received during the 2013 midterm polls (which is said to be P4,500). He recommended that teachers should be given non-monetary benefits like insurance coverage and other assistance for their family needs. He also cited that teachers are exposed to various violent situations during the election that include harassment, physical assault or even killings in the line of duty. In this case he said that teachers should be given compulsory insurance coverage. There are teachers as well that are sued in court because of some legal cases, and so he also wanted that the teachers will be given equal support and justice as they serve the country.

Marcos clearly emphasized that the teachers should be given due credit of their service on elections as they put their lives at stake once again as the country will hold a Presidential Election this coming May.
